Frequently Asked Questions
Who runs this site?
My name is Angela Griffen. I've been in baseball fandom for about two years (although I've only written two stories in that time). I'm pretty boring. Also, I'm an Indians fan. Me and Travis Hafner are like crossed fingers.
The work toward an automated site is being done by Acroarcs, who is a lot smarter than I am. He likes about fifty billion teams, but mostly the Astros.
Who created that sweet header?
The art in the header is by Chex. She can be contacted via e-mail.
What is gen?
Gen-fic is a story that is not primarily a romance story. It might be an action story, or a story about the playoffs, or a story about... well, anything not romance. That does not mean a gen story cannot have a romantic relationship in it. Basically, if a dude is married in real life, and his wife shows up in a story that is mostly about everybody having superpowers, the story is still gen if the main plot of the story is not about the guy's relationship with his wife. Relationships that do not exist in real life should not show up in something called gen.
What is slash?
Slash fanfiction is a term that applies to any fanfiction story that is primarily about a romantic or sexual relationship between two people of the same gender. Because this archive is about men's sports, "slash" here means a story about two men in a romantic or sexual relationship with each other. Slash does not necessarily have to be "adult" in nature. A story about two men who are dating and hold hands and go shopping for groceries and are domestic is slash, just as a story about a man and a woman doing the same things would be classified as het. Do not rate your stories higher just because they are slash stories. That is heterocentric. If a story would be rated G or PG if it were about a man and a woman, it should be rated G or PG if it's about two men.
Why don't you archive het fic?
It's not because I don't love het-fic, because I do. I'm not archiving het-fic just yet, because I (along with my secret cabal) haven't quite figured out what the rules are going to be regarding the het-fic we will archive. Basically, the argument is whether or not to host OFC fic. I don't have the time to read every single submission to see if it's okay, but I don't want to ban OFCs out of hand either, so for now we're just not taking anything, and there will be an announcement when we've worked out the kinks. Note! As of right now, fic that is predominantly slash or gen with some het elements (ie. a dude also banging his wife) is fine.
Why don't you sort stories by pairing?
There are too many possible pairings to sort by them, and this will make it difficult to automate the site. We are aware some people only read certain pairings, and include pairing labels on story summaries/headers for this reason.
Why isn't the archive automated?
There are a lot of different automated archive programs out there on the internet; however, they are all primarily designed for original fiction, or for fanfiction for smaller canons. There is a flexibility we need with an automated archive that is not available to us with the free programs out there. Therefore, we (by which I mean the members of my secret cabal) have to make our own program for the archive to be automated. This takes testing and time. However, I felt that the archive was necessary, in order to help keep the baseball fanfiction community alive and thriving, and have taken it upon myself to hand-code the archive until we're able to automate it. [Update! There is an automated version in the works. Look for site updates within the next few months.]
I submitted my fic, why isn't it up yet?
Because I haven't gotten around to coding it yet. Sorry.
About how long will it take from when my fic is submitted until when it shows up on the site?
It really depends on 1) how busy I am when I receive your submissions, 2) how much fic you submit all at once (I'll want to put everything up at once if at all possible), and 3) how many other submissions I have at around the same time. My guess is I'll be able to get stuff up in about a week, but don't freak out on me if it takes longer than that.
Is there a limit on how many stories I can send in at once?
Nope! It might take a little bit longer for me to get your stories up if you send 20+ stories at once, but feel free to send me everything at once if you'd like!
Will you link my LJ community / website?
Is it about baseball fanfiction? If it is, send me an e-mail about it (griffen @ gmail . com) and I'll check it out.
What is this "secret cabal" thing?
A joke. I do a lot of planning for this archive through my LiveJournal, which is primarily locked. Some of my friends help me out.
